Some flavored yogurts contain as much as 27 grams of sugar or more.  There are 4 grams of sugar in one teaspoon of sugar — this means there would be about 6.75 teaspoons of sugar in the average flavored yogurt.

Most of us would never add that much sugar to sweeten our own yogurt.  Take control of the sugar content by buying plain yogurt and sweetening it yourself.  Not only does this reduce your sugar intake, but it makes your yogurt more of a filling and beneficial meal.

Try adding things like:

  • Honey
  • Jam
  • Cinnamon
  • Fresh/frozen fruit (blueberries, stawberries, bananas, raspberries, pineapple, etc.)
  • Granola
  • Dried fruit

Also, support local dairy farming by purchasing Stoneyfield yogurt…(the UNH dining halls serve Stoneyfield, too!)
